The Hamas movement fights the existing political order, but at the same time does not rule out the possibility of being part of it. Hamas walks in the twilight zone between religious vision and collective memory, and between political temptation and social concern. Her world is based on a commitment to an Islamic Palestine alongside a sensitivity to existential hardships and economic needs, fanatical rhetoric alongside an interpretive acceptance of a political order.

The victory of the Hamas movement in the Palestinian parliamentary elections and the establishment of a government led by it heralds a new era. Ideological predicaments that worsened, political dilemmas that sharpened, intra-organizational tensions that deepened, contrasts between camps that intensified, divided over a governmental structure and governing patterns - all these accompanied a different Palestinian reality. Hamas and the Palestinians are not the same as peace. When we go there, it is better that the confident certainty, gained in our places, regarding what is expected to happen in the Palestinian arena, bows its head to an attitude of doubt and well-articulated skepticism based on a changing and restless reality.
